Kogi State Pioneers State-Wide Health Data Rollout to Boost National Reporting
By Queen Yusufu, GOM-V
In a significant move to modernize its healthcare system, the Kogi State Government has launched the distribution of standardized National Health Data Tools to all public and private hospitals across the state.
The initiative, flagged off on Thursday at the State Ministry of Health, is designed to ensure accurate and comprehensive health record-keeping. Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, represented by the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abdulazeez Adams Adeiza, stated the tools are critical to addressing challenges within the state’s healthcare sector.
Dr. Adeiza explained that while the tools are a national standard from the Federal Ministry of Health, the federal government had not provided them for a long time. In a pioneering step, the Kogi State Government independently reproduced and distributed 5,000 copies of the documents, worth millions of naira, to ensure every health facility is equipped.
Johnson Ayedogbon, the State Director of Health Research, Statistics, and Documentation, emphasized the critical importance of the rollout. He noted that all health data must be uploaded to the national DHIS2 platform, and without these specific tools, medical services provided in Kogi would go unrecorded, making the state appear inactive in national health statistics.
The achievement positions Kogi State as a national leader in health data management. Mr. Ayedogbon confirmed the effort is already yielding results, with the state achieving an 80% reporting rate to the national platform. The project was a collaborative effort between the State Ministries of Health and Information and Communication.
This rollout underscores the Ododo administration’s commitment to leveraging improved data management to enhance healthcare delivery and accountability across Kogi State.
