Governor Ododo Inspects Upgraded Primary Healthcare Center, Reaffirms Commitment to Quality Healthcare Kogi State Governor conducts surprise visit to assess progress on one of 88 revitalized PHC facilities Adavi LGA, June 10, 2025
In a demonstration of his administration’s commitment to improving healthcare access, Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo yesterday paid an unscheduled visit to the Obuburu Primary Healthcare Center in Adavi Local Government Area. The facility, currently undergoing transformation into a Level 2 healthcare center, represents one of 88 PHCs being upgraded across the state through a comprehensive healthcare revitalization program. Governor Ododo personally inspected construction progress, reviewed facility layouts, and engaged with workers on-site.
His visit underscored the administration’s hands-on approach to governance and commitment to project accountability. “I’m here to see things for myself and ensure our people get the quality healthcare facilities they deserve,” Governor Ododo stated during the inspection. “This is not just about buildings, but about saving lives and creating a healthier Kogi State.” The ambitious 88-PHC initiative, backed by a N7 billion World Bank investment, aims to modernize primary healthcare infrastructure statewide, improve access to essential medical services, and strengthen maternal and child healthcare delivery. Dr. Mu’azu Musa Omeiza, Executive Director of Kogi State Primary Health Care Development Agency, revealed the project’s broader scope: “Beyond the 88 PHCs, we’re simultaneously upgrading 7 facilities through BHCPF, 21 via NPHCDA, and rehabilitating 8 with UNICEF/Global Fund support.”
The Governor issued strict directives to contractors and supervising officials, emphasizing zero tolerance for substandard materials, adherence to approved specifications, and compliance with project timelines. Commissioner for Health Abdulazeez Adams Adeiza assured residents that these upgraded facilities will be staffed and equipped to provide comprehensive primary care services upon completion.
The Obuburu PHC upgrade promises to transform healthcare delivery for Adavi LGA residents, particularly benefiting vulnerable groups including women, children, and the elderly. When operational, the Level 2 facility will offer expanded services including 24-hour emergency care, enhanced maternal and child health services, and basic laboratory diagnostics. Governor Ododo emphasized that the healthcare upgrades represent a cornerstone of his administration’s development agenda. “We’re building a healthcare system that leaves no one behind,” he declared.
Project supervisors confirmed the Obuburu PHC is on track for completion within the stipulated timeframe. The Governor’s Office announced plans for similar surprise inspections at other healthcare project sites across the state.
