Lokoja, Kogi State – Auditor-General for Local Government, Hon. Yakubu Siyaka Adabenege, has emphasized the need for Directors of Local Government and Treasurers to adhere strictly to International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) for accurate and up-to-date financial records.

During a sensitization meeting in Lokoja, Adabenege noted that IPSAS compliance serves as a strategic tool to improve local governance, transparency, and service delivery. He also highlighted that adopting IPSAS would enhance the credibility of financial reports and strengthen officials’ bargaining power when engaging with higher authorities on fiscal matters.

The Director of Audit Services, Mr. Chris Emmanuel, explained that the meeting aimed to reinforce accountability and transparency at the grassroots level. He urged financial officers to prepare timely and proper financial statements, maximizing opportunities to increase tax refunds from local governments.
